Network coding-based approach for efficient video streaming over MANET

چکیده
Video streaming over mobile ad-hoc networks is becoming a highly important application for reliably delivering the content between the user and the content storage node. The key challenge is, hence, to address the impact of the user mobility on the quality of the delivered video. Accordingly, the pioneering concept of network coding (NC) emerges as a promising approach for improving the video transmission quality mainly in multicast mobile environment. This work focuses on improving the Quality of Service of video streaming over mobile ad-hoc networks using random NC. We consider video coded by the widely-used H264/SVC codec that generates packets with different priorities and provides traffic differentiation using the IEEE 802.11e MAC. Intuitively, focusing on lowering the error transmission of high priority packets leads to enhance the video streaming quality. Accordingly, this work develops and proposes a new scalable transmission scheme that decreases the loss of high priority packets. Our approach, named Extended Multicast Scalable Video Transmission using Classification-Scheduling Algorithms and Network Coding over MANET (and denoted EMSCNC), adopts a cross layer design between the H.264/SVC codec, the network and MAC layers. Moreover, we develop an analytical framework allowing the performance evaluation in terms of throughput, delay, and packet delivery ratio. Simulation results validate our analytical model and confirm the substantial performance improvement brought by our approach. © 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Method to Reduce Effects of Packet Loss in Video Streaming Using Multiple Description Coding
Multiple description (MD) coding has evolved as a promising technique for promoting error resiliency of multimedia system in real-time application programs over error-prone communicational channels. Although multiple description lattice vector quantization (MDCLVQ) is an efficient method for transmitting reliable data in the context of potential error channels, this method doesn’t consider disc...
متن کاملThe Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks
Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

متن کاملRateless scalable video coding for overlay multisource streaming in MANETs
Recent advances in forward error correction and scalable video coding enable new approaches for robust, distributed streaming in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). This paper presents an approach for distribution of real time video by uncoordinated peer-to-peer relay or source nodes in an overlay network on top of a MANET. The approach proposed here allows for distributed, rate-distortion optimiz...
متن کاملEffective Video Streaming with Low Latency over MANET
In this paper we address the challenge of delivering a video stream with low latency in MANET. The major challenges while streaming video over MANETs are latency, control overhead. Latency and control overhead can be reduced by using Enhanced Efficient Geographic Multicast Protocol (EEGMP). The EEGMP uses a virtual-zone-based structure to implement scalable and efficient group membership manage...
